1930s-1940s in Color

January 23, 2009

I found this photography from my friend, Jake (who is an extremely talanted artist, check out his site). It is a collection of 1930s and 1940s American photography, in color. I really enjoyed looking through these shots, hopefully you do too! Here is what it says on the home page:

“These vivid color photos from the Great Depression and World War II capture an era generally seen only in black-and-white. Photographers working for the United States Farm Security Administration (FSA) and later the Office of War Information (OWI) created the images between 1939 and 1944.”

  1. these pictures are amazing!! it gives such life and personality to this time. i really struggle with relating to this era, and i think a part of it has to do with the black and white images. putting them in color makes them so real and tangible.

  2. my thoughts exactly!
